Description
Doxycycline belongs to the group of tetracyclines and acts bacteriostatic against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, like Bordetella, Campylobacter, E. coli, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus as well as Streptococcus spp. Doxycycline is also active against Chlamydia, Mycoplasma as well as Rickettsia spp.
The action of doxycycline is based on inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis.
Doxycycline has a great affinity to the lungs and is therefore especially useful for treatment of bacterial respiratory infections.
INDICATION OF Doxy-500 WS 1kg
Gastrointestinal and respiratory infections caused by doxycycline sensitive micro-organisms, like Bordetella, Campylobacter, Chlamydia, E. coli, Haemophilus, Mycoplasma, Pasteurella, Rickettsia, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. in calves, goats, poultry, sheep as well as swine.
Contra indications
Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.
Administration to animals of a seriously impaired hepatic function.
Concurrent administration with penicillins, cephalosporins, quinolones as well as cycloserine.
Administration to animals with an active microbial digestion.
Side effects
Discoloration of teeth in young animals may occur.
Hypersensitivity reactions may also occur.
Dosage
For oral administration:
Calves, goats as well as sheep:
Twice daily 1 g per 100 kg body weight for 3 – 5 days.
Poultry as well as swine:
100 g per 500 – 1000 litres of drinking water for 3 – 5 days.
Note: for pre-ruminant calves, lambs as well as kids only.
Withdrawal times
– For meat:
Calves, goats as well as sheep : 14 days.
Swine : 8 days.
Poultry : 7 days.
Not for use in the animals from which milk as well as eggs are produced for human consumption.
