Feeding Directions

Feeding Guidelines for Puppies: Black Gold Explorer Puppy Formula Food is fully adequate and may be fed to puppies as soon as they will nibble at solid food (usually around three weeks of age). Start feeding your puppy a moist mixture containing two parts food to one-part warm broth or water. The amount of liquid may be gradually reduced as the puppy grows older.

Puppies and growing dogs should be fed all they will consume in three to four feedings per day until they are about six months old. At that time, their food allowance should be gradually adjusted. Through proper food allowance and exercise, puppies should be kept in lean muscular condition until about 1-1/2 years of age. Use the guide below as a recommended starting point for puppy feeding.

The amount fed should be adjusted according to the dog’s appetite and condition. Pregnant, nursing, extremely active or hard-working dogs may require and consume 2 to 3 times the amount of food indicated for their weight on the chart.
